hamfists Tele-Meister Hi guys I can't find much information on this subject so I thought I'd ask on here. My wife wanted a cat so we got a cat. I'm a little concerned about having him around when I practice at home mainly because of the noise but also is there and danger of him being hurt from the amp?
  • 02
Does anyone have any problems with cats or any advice. I would really appreciate any advice thanks in advance.

Chud Poster Extraordinaire We have two cats, Loki and Kali. Neither like guitars. Not the acoustic ones, not the electric ones, none of them. Lol. Yours will decide pretty quickly if he likes the guitar or not, and he'll either hang out when you play or he

won't. As for getting hurt by the amp, I suppose it's a possibility if he likes to curl up in the back of a tube amp and decides to lick the base of a tube that he might get a shock. I guarantee he won't ever do it again. Lol.

John Owen Friend of Leo's I posted this picture in another recent thread about rehearsal spaces...anyway our cat always hangs out while my band rehearses. She like to lay right in front of the drum set. I would say, if your cat is not comfortable with the volume level, it will go somewhere else. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Before turning power on to an open-backed amp, you might want to check just to be sure your cat isn't crawled up inside.
  • 10
Oddly enough, it's when I play slide acoustically that my cat flees to the other side of the house as if I'm hurting her ears.

Chud Poster Extraordinaire I used to have a cat who loved the subwoofer port on my surround system.
  • 12
He would literally stick his head right in the port and make a kitty wind tunnel face when we watched movies with lots of explosions or listened to music with a lot of bottom end. Fr king weird cat. Lol

brookdalebill Tele Axpert My two cats tolerate me and my guitars/amps just fine. They have to, though.
  • 14
It's not like they are going to move out over my constant playing, and the guitars all over the place. We're used to each other.

  • 23
Not a big deal though (kind of cute actually), and she does not damage anything, although she WILL curl up in any open guitar case, and will also lay on top of a guitar I just put down:

"It's coming from inside of here! I know it!" Note the amps against the wall and the cardboard shield in front of them. Both recommended.

Jakedog Telefied First off, cats are a LOT smarter than dogs. I say that as a person who loves and lives with both.

If your cat doesn't dig the sound or volume, he'll leave the room. I can't see the amp hurting him. I've had several cats. I've never had one get hurt by gear, or tear up my gear. They generally don't do stuff that can hurt them.
  • 35
Gerdie likes to hang out on top of amps whenever possible. But if I make a move to plug one in, she takes off like a shot. She does not care for the noise at all.
  • 36
My cat is indoors only. She will not go outside. I can leave all the windows and doors open and there's no danger of her leaving the house.
  • 37
She doesn't tear up furniture. Or claw anything she's not supposed to. She's never once peed any place but her litter box.
  • 38
hamfists Tele-Meister Wow this all great I feel a lot happier out giving him a try soon we've only had him less than a week. I'm sure it has been a ploy of my wife's to stop me playing at home lol.
